IMTS 2022 Conference: Additive Manufacturing as a Driver of Sustainable Business Models and Applications
About the presentation
Additive manufacturing (AM) has long been assigned to the unique attributes of design freedom, local manufacturing, lead time improvements, and others. These characteristics enable technology that influences major industries so today, AM parts can even be found on Mars, enhancing the capabilities of the Perseverance Mars rover. But back on earth, in times of a climate crisis, we need to ask how AM can influence an even greater shift toward responsible manufacturing. Now the biggest industrial drivers of climate change are manufacturing, electricity, transportation, agriculture, and temperature regulation. In this talk, we’ll discuss how AM provides a unique approach to reducing carbon emissions in most of these sectors by rethinking the way we create, manufacture, and distribute goods. We’ll also cover the newly defined attributes of AM:
- Purpose-driven design
- Customization
- On-demand and decentralized production
- Circularity
- Digital value chain
Additionally, we’ll discuss how these attributes will drive a shift toward a carbon neutral future using real-life case studies and data to encourage rethinking the traditional attributes of AM. Lastly, we’ll present real life case studies and data to encourage rethinking the traditional attributes of AM.

Powered by AMT and managed by GIE Media, The IMTS 2022 Conference features 69 different sessions you won’t want to miss so register today. Focused on a range of topics that include process innovation, plant operations, quality/inspection, and automation, The IMTS 2022 Conference addresses improving productivity; improving part quality; and developing a stable, competent workforce to lower the cost of manufacturing in the United States and create new levels of market demand.
Meet your presenter
Fabian Alefeld is the senior manager for the Additive Minds consulting and academy services. He is responsible for leading both teams in providing support to organizations that are incorporating (AM) technology. In this role, he provides direction for the teams’ technical consulting and education. To accelerate the growth of the 3D printing industry, Fabian also hosts the AM podcast “Additive Snack,” which captures the experience and knowledge of experts in the AM industry.
About the company
We believe innovation and technology can help create a better world. Most current manufacturing techniques are restrictive, wasteful, and inefficient. We’re convinced AM can overcome these limitations, so we exist to accelerate the world’s transition to responsible manufacturing. At EOS we extend the boundaries of manufacturing ingenuity to ensure future production is less harmful to our planet. We pioneer AM technology and offer digital solutions to existing and future manufacturing challenges. We nurture an ecosystem and empower our people to strive for results that increase energy efficiency, reduce waste, and use resources conscientiously, all with the intention of establishing responsible manufacturing as the new normal.
